REVIEW: m b v by My Bloody Valentine

I've already this is a really good album and that still holds true, but I think the album deserves a full review. So lets, um...look at our shoes and slowly sway into this album that people didn't think was coming.

1. she found now

We are introduced to this album with this psychedelic track. This song is quite fantastic. The constant distorted guitar and the intertwining clean guitar make a beautiful combination. The ominous vocal are frankly beautiful. A great opener.

2. only tomorrow

This song is more concrete than the previous song, but that doesn't mean its any less great. The guitar is great to listen to and the drums are crisp and well done. The vocals carry the melody at parts and are just another instrument at other times, creating a great sense of suspense about what will happen next.

3. who sees you

The first thing you hear in this song is the drums and they are fantastic throughout the song. The vocals are fantastic and staying on the fine line between melodic and background noise, created a very haunting effect. The guitar work isn't the greatest ever, but it's solid enough.

4. is this and yes

The intro to this song is a surprising, but well done piano/organ riff. It's not what I expected to happen, but its a very serendipitous happening. It sounds great. The vocals and the bass drum create a great mix with the organ/piano. It's not the most exciting song ever, but its plainly beautiful.

5. if i am

This song features more fantastic drum work. This song sounds more musical than a lot of the other songs and it still works. It shows that all the members of My Bloody Valentine could be great normal rock musicians  but chose to be these experimental shoegazers. It's kind of like how Sonic Youth's Dirty shows that they could be a much more mainstream sounding band and still be great.

6. new you

This is probably the most controller and concrete song on the record, but it's still My Bloody Valentine.  Everything remains a lot more constant than most of their songs, but I'm no complaining. It's not the best song on the record, but it's still pretty damn good.

7. in another way

After a fantastic cool-synth-laser-thing, drum, guitar intro, we enter this amazing song. The vocals are more prominent than normal and they sound fantastic. The song does what it wants and is all the better for it. This is probably noisiest song on the album, but it doesn't go to far into noise-land, it still feels like a song

8. nothing is

This song is pretty much the same thing over and over again. Its a completely instrumental track. While it's pretty cool, it is just the same thing over and over again. I would like it if it had more too it, but it sadly doesn't. The only think that changes is the volume. This is probably the weakest song on the album, but this album, that's almost a compliment

9. wonder 2

This song is really cool. Throughout the whole song there is this weird/great plane engine sound effect in the background which really gives the song a cool ambiance. The vocals are some of the strongest on the album, but the instrumentals are only good, which can only be an insult on this album. A great way to end this album.

I think the main question on people's mind is "Is this album worth 20-odd years of waiting, constantly pressing F5 for hours last night (I for one, downloaded a program that auto-refreshed the page for me), and a sixteen dollar price tag for only a digital copy?". I would answer that question with an enthusiastic "Yes!". This album is really, really good. It might not be as great as Loveless, it's just a small step below. This is why I'm giving it 9/10 stars, for being fantastic, but not as great as Loveless (which is a perfect 10). Definitely Top Ten material and maybe even album of the year.
